Memoirs of Leroy Wesley Cox [manuscript] 1861-1865.

The memoirs of this Albemarle County, Va., Confederate soldier describe his service with James McDowell Carrington's Company Virginia Light Artillery (Charlottesville Artillery) and in Company D, 46th Virginia Regiment. Carrington relates anecdotes about a black barber in the battery, McDowell, an iliterate mountaineer, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson, describes fights at Port Republic (Cross Keys), Malvern Field, Chancellorsville, Petersburg and White Oak Road and includes the transcript of a letter 1896 August 19, from Jedediah Hotchkiss.

Robert Edward Lee (1807-1870) served as General of the Confederate Army in the U.S. Civil War and was president of Washington College in Lexington, Virginia from 1865 to 1870.
